Collaborative project with Brampton Artist: Aditi Ganeev Sangwan And Sandra Gilmer Medium: Cyanotype (Alternative Photography) and Embroidery embellishment Culture days 2025 "Sun and Stitch" is a participatory cyanotype project inviting community members to create personal photogram-based artworks using sunlight, found objects, drawings, and nature. Through a series of hands-on workshops, participants did botanical cyanotypes followed by embroidery embellishment on cotton scarfs. This initiative celebrated storytelling, sustainable art practices, and visual expression using one of the earliest photographic processes. Cyanotype was invented in 1840’s by Sir John Herschel, the medium is an amazing blend of History, Science and Art. These Cyanotypes were embroidered with colorful threads symbolizing the unanimous spirit of community.
Cyanotype with is beautiful cyan blue impressions and its low cost sustainable character inspired a lot of community engaged workshops in Brampton, Milton, George town, Toronto, Bellfountain, Caledon With diverse communities and indoors as well as outdoors setups. With Cyanotype we have developed programs using botanical, mixed media and photographic techniques. Our explorations include working on paper and fabric. explorations
A series of workshops on sustainable practice's at Milton public Library and Art studio Izza incorporated Natural dyes as integral to creative process. Plant based materials and sustainable mordent's are used in the process.
